Question by Marie: What does a Vet Tech need to do to become a Veterinarian position?
I’m interested in becoming a Veterinarian, I’m planning to enroll in LaGuardia Community College in the Spring so I can take their Veterinary Technology program. I was wondering what a Vet Tech would have to do to become a Veterinarian, how long it would take and where I can find a college for Animal Science, Biology or Zoology, (etc) that does not require a four year degree. Thank you!

It is going to take 8 years to become a vet, regardless of your background in veterinary care. Tack on another 2 years of on the job training, and then you’ll be done. As far as where you need to obtain those degrees, you can just do a google search. Include the degree, and city & state. I’m assuming you live in NY? Good luck!

***Don’t let the length of time it will take to become a vet to scare you. I think the end result will be rewarding and well worth the wait. Besides, 8 years goes by really fast! icon smile
