Article by Jan & George McNaney
Fun games for kids are important, but they need to be educational too.
We know that it’s sometimes hard to keep kids happy, regardless of how hard we try. It’s vital they have fun, but it is important that they are stimulated too.
Fun games for kids should be learning games for kids, and here’s a perfect example. All you require are a few everyday items and some imagination.
Take some coins and get the children to make some bank notes from scrap paper. Then, grab a few everyday items, and they’ve got a shop. A fun game now becomes a math game too. Purchasing or selling goods, counting out the money, etc, will teach children about money, and at the same time they are having a lot of fun. A variation is the coffee shop. Order a make-believe meal, pretend to eat it, pay the waiter/waitress and get the change. You’ll be surprised what fun you’ll have too, with these fun games for kids.
It’s good for children to be inventive and use their imagination on a regular basis. Children have always enjoyed passing many happy hours by building and playing in their own secret hideaway. These dens can range from a detailed structure made from large boxes and lots of tape to a mere blanket over a kitchen table. Both are equally interesting fun games for kids to play.
The children could ask the neighbors if they have any old boxes lying about in their garage, or maybe, the local supermarket will have a couple to spare.
If you have a little more time to spend, a wonderful den can be constructed, with rooms, passageways, doors and windows. The kids will have a fantastic time playing with flashlights in their secret den, and rest assured they’ll have many hours of fun.
Fun games for kids can also teach them about making money.
Here’s an idea that would appeal to older kids and it’s a fun way for kids to earn a little cash.
You can pick up craft packs, such as cards and beads from thrift shops. There’ll be no end of ideas for things to make, once the imagination gets going.
Get the children to work out how many items can be made from each bundle. Then they should work out a price for each item, that will allow them to make a profit. Now, they can begin to make things, which when finished can be sold to friends or family. As their skill develops they will become much more accomplished and extremely proud of their achievements.
Before long there could be orders for personalised items, such as a hand made card for a special occasion, or a bracelet to go with a specific outfit. Soon they’ll be able to pay you back the initial start up costs.
So if the fun games for kids you introduce have the right balance between fun and education, then your children will benefit tremendously and reap the rewards.
