Question by barbariantobyone: Does anyone have recent Air Force BMT and tech school info?
I’m off to af bmt in about a month. Im just curious if anybody has any good, recent info on bmt and tech school. What to bring to bmt? How tech school is? Do you normally get weekends off in school? etc. No disrespect but I’m looking for current info. Not stuff from 10 or more years ago.

BMT and tech school has not changed in a long time…don’t need to have been there recently to know what it’s like.

What to bring to BMT: You are given a list of what to bring. Everything else stays home or can be shipped to you once you get to tech school.

How is Tech school?…depends on where you go to school. When I was at Lackland, you had to wait a few weeks before you started school, especially if you are active duty. Guard and Reserve start sooner because their home units pay for their stay so they don’t have all that much money for them to sit around and do details for the next few months. So if there’s a large influx of NG and Reserve going to your school, expect to wait if you’re active duty. And when I was at Sheppard, some students had to wait months to start school. Also, you may be put on details anywhere on the base to do things. There are always various things that need to be done on an AF base…

You will get weekends off, but not initially. Again, this depends on where you go to school and what school you go to. Generally, the more people in your AFSC, the less work you do because there’s so many of you to do details, FOD walks, etc. When you’re in school, you are in certain phases depending on how long you’ve been there and whether or not you got in trouble or anything. The later phases give you much more freedom and time to yourself than when you first get there. If you get 341s pulled often, then expect to not have much if any time off.

Have been out of BMT and tech school for over 10 years…but I’ve been stationed at AETC bases a long time…things don’t change that much. There’s no reason to change it because it’s not broken.
