Many people, adults and children alike, find school boring. The repetition, endless lectures, pop quizzes and standardized tests turn a lot of folks off and actually discourage people from learning. However, if you are engaged in an activity that is fun and doesn’t seem like work it is surprising how much you can learn.

Brain games are such activities that challenge the brain but do so in a manner that is both fun and enjoyable. Math games, strategy games, memory games and thinking games can be found in many different games, puzzles and riddles that stretch the brain and engage the mind in brain training.

Brain training is the process of exercising the many facets of your brain to improve memory, cognitive ability, thinking, reaction time and many other skills that are essential for our development and growth. Many people are under the assumption that your brain stops learning at a certain point when in fact it’s on the person to continually “exercise” the brain to avoid degeneration and memory loss.

While an illness such as Alzheimer’s cannot be cured through word games and puzzles natural memory loss and thinking ability can be trained on a daily basis through crossword puzzles, memory match games and other clever riddles to sharpen your mind and keep it fresh.

A good example of a fun brain game is the classic strategy game known as chess. This board game challenges you to strategize and plan your moves in advance so you can outwit your opponent. Playing chess regularly sharpens your strategic thinking and primes your brain to act reflexively so you can move quicker and without having to think through each move. World class chess players and masters can finish games in minutes because of their constant practice and analytic abilities.

Brain games are often very simple in design but have a profound effect on how we think, process thoughts, retain memory and improve concentration. If you think of your brain like any other muscle part in the body then you will understand how brain training is essential to keeping the mind fit. The same way a defined body can turn soft and flabby without regular exercise your brain can also atrophy if not kept in shape. Brain games are designed to provide you with the training tools needed to keep your brain sharp, alert and active.
