Just like jocks love their team jerseys and goths love black eyeliner, geeks have their own dress code as well. Tattered chinos and Chuck Taylor sneakers aside, the geeks among us also have their own favored t-shirts. Geek t-shirts tend to be cerebral, tongue-in-cheek, and unintelligible to the less learned among us.
For that special girl or gal geek in your life, be on the lookout for literal translations. Favorites that I have seen in this category are the words ‘One Night Stand’ with a picture below of, you guessed it, a bedside table. There is another depicting a running stick figure entitled ‘Streaker!’. This seems to appeal to the playful nature of the English language that geeks so love to exploit.
Another common theme of geek t-shirts are obscure mathematical or computer knowledge used in a humorous way. One shirt depicts a house with an improbably-long house number. Two students are standing outside. One is saying, “This must be Fibonacci’s!” Another shirt proclaims, “There are only ten types of people in the world: those that understand binary and those who don’t.”
Some geeky tees are simply clever statements about geek life, such as “404 Error: Girlfriend Not Found.” Another states, “My Podcast is Lame.” On a more positive note, some are statements of geek pride. Examples include: “Geeks Do It Better”, “Interfaces Well With Others”, and “Nerd is the Word”.
Geeks have some interesting options when it comes to being fashion-forward. Whether your particular geek is a computer nerd or Dungeons and Dragons freak, there is sure to be a shirt out there for them!
