The City of Love is aptly named, but don’t go thinking that it’s all moonlight and roses guys! Love can apply to many things; food, art, wine, architecture, history; there’s much to love in Paris, which is why you will definitely need more than a day or two to sample this fantastic European treasure!Hello all, it’s Shelby again, and I’m telling you not, you can NOT leave Paris without taking a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower! I mean, come ON, are you dense or what? This is Paris! Seeing the Eiffel Tower is about as necessary as seeing London’s Big Ben, and probably a good bit more stirring. While you’re here, why not visit the Jules Verne restaurant at the top, it’s pricey, but how often are you going to be able to eat while Paris is laid out at your feet? Stick around to see the tower lit up at sundown though. Every night the tower is lit up for five minutes every hour by over 20,000 light bulbs.Of course, if you want to get lost, the Louve is one of the best places to lose yourself. Did you know that beneath the glass pyramid entrance you’ll find over 35,000 pieces of artwork? And that’s just the stuff on display! It can take days to just get through everything, and make sure to wear some good walking shoes; sandals will rub your ankles raw in no time!

Is it even worth my time to mention the shopping in Paris? Do I really need to? Even if you are the most jaded shopper, even if you’ve fallen out of love with shopping and avoid it as much as possible, Paris will make you a believer again, well, at least for as long as your credit cards hold out! I have to be careful whenever I come – in fact, I usually end up having to buy a new suitcase whenever I leave Paris, I buy that much new stuff!

But it’s not all about shopping or art, some of it’s about food too! Good grief, if you can’t find good food in Paris, it’s time to check your pulse. There is food and wine – good stuff too – available on almost every street corner, in every street side cafĂ© and in every restaurant. I always eat too much when I come, which is why I pack mostly dresses, they hide a multitude of sins (and crepes!).If you need some exercise after stuffing yourself (and you will stuff yourself) try taking a walk around the Cathederale Notre-Dame. Built between 1163 and 1334, Notre-Dame has seen some serious history and is worth the time to visit, even if all you’re interested in is the gargoyles. And whatever you do, don’t write off Parisian nightlife!Paris is, like, THE jazz capitol of Europe, with clubs with names you’ll recognize instantly, like Caveau da la Huchette or the Au duc des Lombards where some of jazz’s top names of all times have played, and the New Morning where blues and world music reign supreme and then of course there are clubs styled a’la Moulin Rouge. Ahem, need I say more?

But don’t just take my word for it! Paris is not just a city; it’s an experience, and one I plan on taking full advantage of, so this is Shelby (S.O.S.) once again signing off from the City of Love.
